| 1772 | An old authentic Walliser house was erected, of which a piece still remains as part of the Hotel Post to this very day. The date 1772 can still be found carved into one of the original beams in the “Old Spaghetti Factory” in the Chalet on the second floor. |
| 1875 | Johann Lauber opened the Hotel de la Poste with a total of 20 beds. After the Hotel Monte Rosa and the Mont Cervin the Hotel Post is the third oldest Hotel in Zermatt. |
| 1883 | Alfons Zumtaugwald took posession of the Hotel and extended it by building larger premices. |
| 1885-1891 | The Hotel Post Belonged to the Solicitor and town President Alfons Zumtaugwald. |
| 1888 | The Hotel Schwarzsee was built by 8 local Zermatters and was run in conjunction with the Hotel Post. |
| 1889 | Arch Bishop Dr Achile Ratti, who later became Pope Pius XI stayed in the Hotel Post while climbing the Matterhorn and the Monte Rosa. |
| 1891 | At an auction Ferdinand Mathier and Caesar Gattlen, two businessmen from Stalden and Visp bought the Hotel Post. |
| 1902 | The forfathers of the present owners Caesar Gattlen, and Ferdinand Mathier added 2 floors to the original Hotel. Caesar Gattlen had 3 sons; Caesar, Michael and the locally renowned inventor Professor Josef Gattlen. Ferdinand Mathier had 7 daughters and 2 sons. Caesar, the oldest son of Caesar Gatteln, and Bertha, one of Ferdinands daughters ran the Hotel during the summer months, after a while they married each other. This marriage produced 2 sons Herbert and Walter and 2 daughters Fernanda and Lea. Brother and sister Walter and Fernanda took over the running of the Hotel. During the winter months the Hotel became a learning Institute (The Walter Institute and The Grand Verger Institute.) Among many international scholars were two Egyptian princesses from King Farouk. |
| 1959-1984 | The Hotel Post was leased by family Gattlen to Karl Ivarsson for a duration of 25 years, later to be extended by a further 17 years. During this time The Hotel Post became the most popular fun and entertainment business in Zermatt if not the whole Alps. It boasts guests from the political, cultural and musical world as well as the occaisional film star. |
| Am 23. November 2001 | The business was taken over by Martin Perren, the son of the owner and his wife Daniela Perren-Germanini. |
| 2007 | The Hotel Post was completly renovated and opens as a new unique 4* Hotel. The authenticity, originality and uniqueness of the building will be kept. |
